Disconnecting

Before you start to disconnect, please power down your computer and unplug from the wall. Unplug all cables from the back and front of your computer.

Reconnecting - All in one

If you have an All in One, these are the ports you will likely find on the back of your computer:

1 & 2 HDMI-in 1.4 FHD/HDCP 1.4 port

  • Connection to another monitor.

3.   DisplayPort++ 1.4a HBR3/HDCP 2.3 port

  • Connect an external display or a projector. Can support video output of up to 5120 x 3200 at 60 Hz.

4  RJ45 ethernet port (1 Gbps)

  • When connecting the network cable, make sure it goes from wall to phone, phone to wall. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

5  USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) ports with SmartPower On

  • Connect devices such as external storage devices and printers. Provides a data transfer speed of up to 5 Gbps.

6  USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) ports

  • Connect devices such as external storage devices and printers. Provides a data transfer speed of up to 10 Gbps.

7  USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) Type-C port

  • Connect devices such as external storage devices and printers. Provides a data transfer speed of up to 20 Gbps.

8  Power-cable connector

  • Connect a power cable to provide power to your computer.

9  Power-supply diagnostics light

  • Indicates the power-supply state.

Reconnecting - Docking station

All peripherals (monitors, keyboard, mouse) and networking plugs into the docking station, and a USB-C plugs into the laptop.

  1. Displayport for connecting your monitor – you most likely have cables for these two ports.
  2. HDMI 2.0 port, also for connecting monitors.
  3. USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port with DisplayPort – this is not a commonly used port for the University.
  4. USB 3.2 Gen 1 Port for flash drives, media cables, local printer, etc.

  6. Power connection
  7. Type-C With Thunderbolt 3 port

Troubleshoot common issues

If your screen turns off when your laptop is closed, check Display settings:

Click on the Windows icon (1) on your task bar and select Settings (2).

Select System from the left-side options.

Select Power & battery.

You may now exit settings as changes are automatically saved.

Test the new setting. Close the lid of the laptop, and the external monitors should continue to display, after a brief re-scaling.

Mouse is not flowing from monitors correctly

Once you have your computer set up with the monitors and you find that the mouse does not flow from one monitor to the next properly, there are two fixes:

  • Physically moving one monitor to fit the flow
    Or
  • You can manually change your display settings:
  1. Click on the Windows icon (1) on your task bar and select Settings (2).Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  4. Select Extend these displays from the drop-down menu at the top right-hand side.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. Press Identify (1) to display the number on each of your monitors. You can drag and drop (2) the displays so they match what is physically on your desk.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Test your new settings out by checking to see if your mouse easily flows between both screens. If successful, you may now exit settings as changes are automatically saved.
