This article demonstrates how to share SharePoint and OneDrive files from within the file itself and from the program's document library.
How to Share Files in the File

Open your Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.

In the top-right corner, click “Share”.
Note: Word's button is blue, PowerPoint's button is red-orange, and Excel's button is green.

From the drop-down menu, click “Share”.
Note: Clicking "Copy link" will only generate a "Read-only" link too the people you send it to.

In the pop-up window:
a. Type in the name or email of the person you are sharing the file with.

b. Click the eye symbol next to the user’s name and change permissions as needed. These will be listed below, but the default is always “Can view”.


c. Type in a message. It’s not required to send.

d. Click “Send” to send it as an email.

How to Share Files from SharePoint or OneDrive's Document Library
There are two ways. The first is:

Open your OneDrive or SharePoint Documents tab.

Locate the file and click the check mark next to the file’s name.

In the ribbon above the files, click “Share”.

In the pop-up window:
a. Type in the name or email of the person you are sharing the file with.

b. Click the eye symbol next to the user’s name and change permissions as needed. These will be listed below, but the default is always “Can view”.


c. Type in a message. It’s not required to send.

d. Click “Send” to send it as an email.

The second way to share from the Documents Library is:

Open your OneDrive or SharePoint Documents tab.

Locate the file and click the box with an arrow directly to the right of the file’s name.

In the pop-up window:
a. Type in the name or email of the person you are sharing the file with.

b. Click the eye symbol next to the user’s name and change permissions as needed. These will be listed below, but the default is always “Can view”.


c. Type in a message. It’s not required to send.

d. Click “Send” to send it as an email.
